Has the World Social Forum been co-opted by capitalism? Does it have a future?
March 3, 2010 -- Olivier Bonford and Eric Toussaint are members of the International Council of the World Social Forum (WSF) and of the the Committee for the Abolition of the Third World Debt (CADTM). In this interview with Marga Tojo Gonzales, they discuss the future and role of the World Social Forum as it enters its second decade. They also examine the relationship between the WSF and the call for a Fifth Socialist International by Venezuela's Hugo Chavez. Translated by Vicki Briault and Christine Pagnoulle.

Capitalist crisis
Imperialist Economism, Democracy and the Socialist Revolution: A response from Doug Lorimer
By Doug Lorimer
"Capitalism and imperialism can be overthrown only by economic revolution. They cannot be overthrown by democratic transformations, even the most `ideal'. But a proletariat not schooled in the struggle for democracy is incapable of performing an economic revolution. Capitalism cannot be vanquished without taking over the banks, without repealing private ownership of the means of production.
February 2000: Either A 'Socialist Revolution Or A Make-Believe Revolution: A Rejoinder to Doug Lorimer
By Phil Hearse
"The International of Crime and Treason [i.e., the counter-revolutionary co-ordination of imperialism - PH] has in fact been organised. On the other hand, the indigenous bourgeoisies have lost all their capacity to oppose imperialism -- if they ever had it -- and they have become the last card in the pack. There are no other alternatives: either a socialist revolution or a make-believe revolution." -- Ernesto Che Guevara, Message to the Tricontinental 1967. (my emphasis)

An international balance sheet of the ‘broad party’ strategy
By John Percy
This article aims to look at the experience of the “broad party” tactic or strategy as implemented by revolutionary socialists internationally over recent decades.
Open Letter to the Australian Socialist Alliance & Democratic Socialist Perspective
Dear Comrades,
I was preparing to write greetings to Green Left Weekly on its 800th issue, when I received the leaflet issued by Socialist Alliance on Iran. GLW reflects the views of SA. Subsequently, I learned that the Democratic Socialist Perspective was in agreement with the SA leaflet.
As a long-time supporter of Green Left Weekly over the years I strongly urge SA and DSP to issue a correction.
My major objection to the leaflet is that it calls on the imperialist Australian government to intervene in Iran in the name of “democracy.”
